The US will not transfer ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine yet.

As reported by Censor.NET with reference to Defense One, this was stated by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Mark Milley.

"For now, there is a political decision not to do that. But I wouldn't predict anything for the future. From a military point of view, we have relatively few ATACMS, we also have to be sure that we maintain our own ammunition stocks," he noted.

Milley explained that the effectiveness of ATACMS is "somewhat exaggerated."

"You're looking at a single shot, so think about a musket versus a multiple rifle. The GMLRS fires six shots, while the ATACM fires one," he noted.

According to Milley, ATACMS has a longer range, but there are other systems that can provide that range.

"There are UAVs, for example, that can do this, and the British have a couple of systems," he concluded.
