Ukraine cannot shoot down all Russian guided aerial bombs, because this will exhaust Ukrainian air defense, - Air Force

Enemy guided bombs could theoretically be shot down by anti-aircraft missiles, but this would deplete Ukrainian supplies and leave Ukrainian skies defenseless against Russian cruise missiles, planes and helicopters.

This was stated by the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yurii Ihnat, on the air of the telethon, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

"It is clear that a bomb that flies by inertia dropped from a plane from a great height, it plans, it has wings, it flies, it can also, as it were, be shot down. But where to get so many tools? Stocks are not endless. To shoot down a bomb, you need an anti-aircraft missile, the kind that is used to shoot down cruise missiles, enemy planes, etc., he said.

According to Ignat, the enemy uses about 20 rockets every day.

"If we now calculate how many missiles will be needed, because more than one missile is needed (for one bomb. - Ed.), it is not so easy to hit a bomb, then there is a danger that we simply will not have enough weapons to oppose the Russian Federation already inside the country," he emphasized.

Ihnat added that the main task of the Air Force is to prevent Russian planes and helicopters from appearing in Ukrainian skies.

"When they appear and already drop free-fall bombs, then, believe me, the apocalypse will be many times greater if this happens. Therefore, the Air Force must provide anti-aircraft missile, forceful airspace cover," Ignat noted.

Earlier, he explained that countering guided bombs requires more modern air defense systems than those that Ukraine has. According to him, the Russians launch these bombs without entering the Ukrainian air defense zone. This problem can be solved by Patriot, SAMP/T, which Ukraine should receive in the near future. But the best option is the F-16, which carries long-range missiles.
