Germany is ready to produce 250 thousand shells for Ukraine - German media

Germany has offered to produce 250,000 155-millimeter artillery shells. This is a quarter of the total amount of ammunition the EU plans to produce for Ukraine.
As reports Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, this proposal was made at a meeting of arms company directors this week, reports Censor.NЕТ.
The publication notes that the Rheinmetall concern will take over the production of ammunition.
An unnamed company representative told the publication that the company can currently produce 450,000 artillery shells per year, 350,000 of which are produced at plants in Europe.
"In the future, Rheinmetall expects a significant increase in production in the field of artillery ammunition to about 600,000 shells per year," he said.
According to the agreement reached between the EU countries, in order to partially reimburse the costs, the production of shells must be carried out in the territory of the Union. Components can be supplied from third countries. In this regard, Rheinmetall can provide about 50,000 shell casings, which the concern produces in Australia, and rocket fuel charges from a South African plant, but not 100,000 grenades, which are produced in South Africa.
