We need expanded and reformed European Union, - Scholz
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during a speech in the European Parliament, called for the reform of the European Union in parallel with its expansion.

Scholz outlined three key positions for Europe: first, that the fate of Europe "is in its hands"; secondly, that the more united Europe is, the better the future awaits it; thirdly, that openness and cooperation should be increased, not reduced.
The chancellor emphasized that in order for Europe to have a good geopolitical position in the future, the EU must change.
"We need a geopolitical European Union, an enlarged and reformed European Union, an EU that will be open to the future," Scholz said, adding that he would promote the process of decision-making by a qualified majority in matters related to foreign policy and taxation.
He mentioned Ukraine separately, noting that the European Union should now set a course for post-war reconstruction.
"Prosperous, democratic, European Ukraine will be the best objection to Putin's imperial, revisionist, and illegal policy," said the Chancellor of Germany.
Scholz also emphasized that the well-being of the European continent is "inseparable from the rest of the world" and the EU should take initiative and responsibility in solving global problems and cooperate with the countries of the so-called "global South".
