The head of the ruling party of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, said that the introduction of direct sanctions against Russia will be a punishment for Georgia.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to News-Georgia.

"We will not introduce sanctions against the Russian Federation, we will not punish our country and people, therefore we will not make any such decisions," he said.

The subject of sanctions was again discussed in Georgia against the background of Russia's decision to cancel the visa regime for Georgian citizens and restrictions on flights.

"We calculated what the introduction of sanctions against Russia would do to Georgia's economy. For example, we had double-digit economic growth, more than 10%, last year.
And if we imposed our sanctions, we would have a double-digit economic decline, at least 10% to 18%. This is what the radical opposition demanded. They wanted to ruin the country, but they didn't succeed because we took a firm position," Kobakhidze added.
