Landing the amphibious assault in Hostomel was the only plan of the Russians to seize Kyiv.
Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Defence Intelligence, said this in an interview with journalist Dmytro Komarov, Censor.NET reports.
"The whole plan of the Russians was to quickly land by landing method (at the Hostomel airfield. - Ed.) and leave from there. It was the only plan," Budanov said.
He added that all day on February 24, 2022, the Russians tried to land an amphibious landing there and sincerely believed that they would succeed.
"Firstly, they did not believe that there would be any resistance at all, secondly, they believed that they would land quickly, and plane after plane the units would be unloaded, which would immediately enter Kyiv," said the head of the Defence Intelligence.
According to him, not the last role was played by the information disseminated by our intelligence.
"The one they wanted to believe in still prevailed. Why did they say that the Russians were stupid, didn't believe that there would be a war after all: they didn't take refuelers with them, their tanks stopped, there was no delivery of supplies, food, it's all true. But the truth is still different - they had to create a picture of a massive offensive and the absence of an alternative to surrender. And to create a picture of the entry of these columns. That's how it was.
No one expected to fight like in Mariupol. There were no such options. They believed that no one would be able to create serious opposition to them, and they would enter the government quarter and change the leadership. Since, in their opinion, the state leadership should have fled somewhere for the time being, if not, they would have destroyed it," Budanov said.
