Ukraine can independently produce long-range weapons, - General Petraeus

Given the restrictions on the use of Western weapons against targets on Russian territory, Ukraine itself can produce long-range weapons for this purpose.

General David Petraeus, former head of the US Central Command in 2008-2010 and former director of the CIA (2011-2012), stated this in a comment to Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.

When asked how mass shelling of Ukraine from the territory of the Russian Federation can be countered, Petraeus said: "There have never been any restrictions on what Ukraine itself produces."

"I believe that Ukraine will independently develop capabilities that will eventually enable it to cope with this threat," he said.

General Petraeus believes that the existing restrictions are justified: "We want our leaders to be prudent and careful. We have seen examples of what can happen when they are not."

At the same time, the general admits that a certain "evolution in Western thinking" may take place.

Speaking to innovators in Ukraine, the former CIA chief said he sees "extraordinary opportunities" and "capabilities" to produce long-range weapons in-house.

Speaking about the role of the Western coalition in countering the threat of Russian ballistic strikes on Ukraine, General Petraeus said that, first of all, it is necessary to continue providing Ukraine with weapons to shoot down such missiles.
