US Ambassador to NATO Juliana Smith believes that the Alliance is unlikely to approve the decision to invite Ukraine to NATO at the July summit in Vilnius.

She told about this in an interview with Politico, Censor.NET reports.

"I think the allies now agree that an invitation is unlikely while they (Ukrainians. - Ed.) are engaged in a full-scale war," Smith said.

However, she added that the Alliance seeks to assure Ukraine of long-term support and is trying to find a way to demonstrate this in Vilnius.

"We want to make it clear to President Zelensky, if he comes in person, that we are deeply interested in a long-term relationship with Ukraine and are looking for ways to recognize all that they have achieved, and that our support will not go away," Smith said.

She noted that "there are many options" between the invitation of Ukraine to membership and the decision of the Bucharest NATO summit, and added that the last meeting of foreign ministers of NATO countries in Oslo played a useful role in the discussion of this issue.

"We are much closer to a single solution than three or four months ago," she concluded.

It will be recalled that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, stated that ideally, Ukraine would like to receive an invitation to the Alliance at the July NATO summit.
