Every fifth Ukrainian is abroad because of war - OPORA

Due to the war, as of June 2023, 8 million 177 thousand citizens of Ukraine are abroad. This is about 20% of the population.
This is reported by the civil network OPORA. She received these data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in response to a request, Censor.NET informs.
At the same time, almost half of Ukrainians live in only three countries: Poland - 22%, Germany - 15% and the USA - 11%. Also, many citizens of Ukraine found refuge in the Czech Republic - 7.9%, Italy - 5%, Canada - 4.9%, Spain - 3.4%, and Israel - 2.75%.
Almost 63% of Ukrainians living abroad are adults, 22% are children under the age of 18. The age of another 15% of people is not specified.
Only 6% of Ukrainians abroad are on consular records.
OPORA notes that there is no accurate information on the number of Ukrainian refugees abroad. After all, different institutions use different counting methodologies.
According to the National Commission for Communications Regulation, there were 48.3 million active cards of mobile communication networks in the network of Ukraine in June. On average, there are 143 SIM cards per 100 Ukrainians. Therefore, it can be assumed that no more than 33.8 million citizens live in the country now, OPORA calculated.
They also recalled that from 1991 to the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the population of Ukraine decreased by more than 8 million people.
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, since February 24, 2022, about 6.29 million people have left Ukraine and have not returned.
According to the survey conducted by the UN in December 2022 and January 2023, 65% of respondents plan to "one-day" return to Ukraine. But only 12% planned to do so within the next three months.
