Zelenskyy appoints Hero of Ukraine Pivnenko as commander of National Guard
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed a combat officer, Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko as Commander of National Guard.
The head of state said this in Lviv after returning from Turkey together with the Azov commanders, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"We now have among us the Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko, a powerful soldier of the National Guard, a combat officer who distinguished himself in battles against the Russian occupiers, in particular, in the battles for Bakhmut. I have appointed Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President wished the new commander of the National Guard the liberation of all our land, the return of all our people, and a long-awaited victory.
In addition, the Head of State presented state awards to the Ukrainian military.
National Guard Colonel Oleksandr Pivnenko was awarded the Gold Star of the Hero of Ukraine on 23 March 2023. Pivnenko gave more than 19 years of his life to the army, most of them in the Special Forces. He was the commander of the 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard. Since March, the colonel has been the head of the Eastern Directorate of the National Guard.
