The G7 countries decided to agree on a multilateral framework to provide Ukraine with long-term security guarantees. The plan aims to help Ukraine strengthen its army to defend itself against Russian aggression.

The text of the document, which was agreed at the NATO summit in Vilnius, was obtained by the Financial Times, Censor.NET reports citing the EP.

"Today we begin talks with Ukraine to formalise... our continued support for Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity, rebuilds its economy, protects its citizens and seeks to integrate into the Euro-Atlantic community," the G7 countries said in a statement, adding that talks with Ukraine would begin as soon as possible.

It is noted that the commitments, to which non-G7 countries are also invited to join, will include the supply of "modern military equipment on land, in the air and at sea", training of the Ukrainian military, intelligence sharing and assistance in cyber defence.

In return, Kyiv is committed to reforms, including the judiciary and civilian control of the armed forces.
