ID cards instead of passports from 2016, - Yatseniuk

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk announced transition from internal Soviet era passports to ID cards starting next year.
As reported by Censor.NET, this is announced by Ukrainska Pravda.
At the Interior Ministry board meeting on Friday, Yatseniuk noted that according to the requirements of the EU regarding visa-free regime more than 20 border checkpoints are to be connected to Interpol's databases by this September.
"You know your tasks. In September we should have more than 20 basic checkpoints connected to Interpol's databases. The issue of biometric passports and transition from internal Soviet era passports to citizen of Ukraine ID cards next year are not less important," he said.
"This is a visa-free regime reform and we must do everything to not let anyone mock at Ukraine because of failure in some technical issues," Yatseniuk added.
In his turn, president Poroshenko, also present at the board, said that "the major part of all these activities must be done before September," when the EU visa-free regime observation mission comes to Ukraine.
