International Fencing Federation overturns Kharlan’s disqualification

Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan will be able to take part in the team competition at the 2023 World Cup in Milan.
As informs Censor.NЕТ, this is stated by Tribuna with reference to La Repubblica.
It is noted that Harlan had the right not to shake hands with Smirnova, according to the Covid protocol in force at the tournament. The federation interpreted the gesture with the sword at the end as a greeting.
The publication reports that the FIE heeded the call of the IOC, which intervened in the situation.
The Ukrainian will be able to compete in the team tournament, which will take place on July 29. Harlan was included in the team's application. Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in the team tournament.
Kharlan initially faced a 60-day suspension from all tournaments.
The decision to suspend the disqualification was made by the Executive Committee of the International Fencing Federation, which has the authority to intervene in regulations already issued during the World Cup. This decision was made after Kharlan received automatic qualification from the IOC for the 2024 Olympics.
