Currently, the salary of junior officers of the Russian army is 2.7 times higher than the average salary in Russia. Residents of the poorest regions of Russia are lured into the war with Ukraine by high salaries.

This is stated in the report of British intelligence, Censor.NET informs.

On February 4, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that a Russian lieutenant receives 81,200 rubles a month. In October 2022, he announced that even mobilized ordinary soldiers would receive 195,000 rubles a month.

"Many junior officers serving in Ukraine now receive more than 200,000 rubles a month. This is 2.7 times higher than the average salary in Russia, which is 72,851 rubles," experts point out.

They note that the high salary and additional benefits are a strong incentive for servicemen, especially from poor regions of Russia, to join the ranks of the Armed Forces.

"However, Russia is still unlikely to achieve its goals of recruiting volunteers to the ranks of the Armed Forces," British intelligence summarizes.
