In its proposals for the 12th package of sanctions against Russia, the Estonian government calls for a full trade embargo.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tähkna, Censor.NET reports citing Postimees.

He added that in a situation where Russia continues its illegal aggressive war against Ukraine and the entire world order based on international law, it is necessary to further strengthen sanctions against the Kremlin and increase their effectiveness.

"Based on these three objectives, the government has approved Estonia's position on the 12th package of EU sanctions, for which we will immediately seek the support of EU member states and like-minded partners," said Mr Tahkna.

He stressed that Estonia demands that the EU sanctions package includes a full trade embargo against Russia. He added that any trade with Russia is inappropriate.

He also clarified that the country has approved alternative proposals to strengthen sanctions.

These include a ban on the transit of goods subject to sanctions and a sharper reduction in revenues from Russian energy exports.
