An officer from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who presented grenades to Valerii Zaluzhnyi’s assistant Hennadii Chatiakov, was notified of suspicion.
This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SBI press service.
"It was established that the officer purchased 8 DM 51A2 hand-held universal offensive-defensive grenades without the appropriate permission and brought them to his office. Eventually, he packed six of them in a wooden gift box and put a bottle of hard liquor in it. He presented this box to serviceman Hennadii Chatiakov on the occasion of his birthday. By these actions, the officer actually committed the sale of explosive devices. He continued to store two more grenades in the closet of his office, where they were seized by law enforcement officers," the statement reads.
Currently, the officer has been served a notice of suspicion of purchasing, storing, carrying and selling explosive devices without a permit provided for by law (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code).
According to the National Police of Ukraine, the tragedy occurred in a residential complex in the Chaiky village in the Kyiv region. After receiving a report of the explosion, the police urgently arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary information, a 39-year-old serviceman was killed as a result of a grenade explosion. His 13-year-old son was seriously injured. The guy is under the supervision of doctors.
