Cryptocurrencies worth $1.5 million were found in ex-head ofState Special Communications Shchyhol, - SAPO
During a search of the former head of the State Special Communications Service, Yurii Shchyhol, law enforcement officers found a crypto wallet in the phone, which stores cryptocurrency worth $1.5 million.
This was stated by the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office during the selection of a measure of restraint for the ex-official in the High Anti-Corruption Court, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.
The prosecutor argued the appeal for a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail of UAH 50.23 million by the fact that "a crypto wallet containing funds in various cryptocurrencies was found in Shchyhol's phone."
"In particular, the Tether USDT cryptocurrency in the amount of 1,201,285 units, which as of November 20 is $1,201,928," the prosecutor said. In addition, according to him, the crypto wallet contains bitcoins in the amount of 6.9, the cost of which is 265 thousand dollars.
Also during the searches, 82 thousand euros and 72 thousand dollars in cash were found from the ex-head of the State Special Communications.
In the end, according to the SAPO press service, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) partially granted the prosecutor's request and applied a measure of restraint to the suspect in the form of detention with the alternative of depositing UAH 50 million.
It should be recalled that according to NABU, the leadership of the State Special Communications Service is suspected of embezzling UAH 62 million during the purchase of software.
Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed the leadership of the State Special Communications Service. Thus, Yurii Shchyhol was dismissed from the post of Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, and Viktor Zhora was dismissed from the post of Deputy Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization.
