The Czech Republic was able to get rid of its long-standing dependence on Russian gas.

This was stated by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"Last spring, there was a threat that the Czech Republic would have a gas shortage, that our energy security was threatened by dependence on Russia. We did not hesitate and took several important steps. One of them was the opening of an LNG terminal in the Netherlands, which can cover a significant part of our consumption. And we were able to completely get rid of our dependence on Russian gas," Fiala said.

The Czech Republic does not currently buy gas from Russia, but in late November it became known that some traders began importing Russian gas to the Czech Republic in significant volumes in October. Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Josef Sikela assures that there is no need for this. According to him, Russian gas accounted for 79.6 million cubic metres of the total supply from January to the end of October this year, or 1.2 per cent. From January to the end of September, Russian gas imports were actually zero.
