Brazil is unlikely to arrest Putin, who will be invited there for G20 summit - Minister of Foreign Affairs Vieira

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, said that his country, which is a signatory of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, has not given up its intention to invite Vladimir Putin to the summit of the "Group of Twenty" in 2024.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to European Pravda.

According to the head of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Putin is invited to the G20 summit because Russia is a "natural member" of this association.

"We have to consider this (issue. - Ed.) on a case-by-case basis. There is always, even in the ICC rules, a regime for heads of state that we must study. If he (Putin. - Ed.) wants to come, we will be very we are glad of his presence at the meetings in Brazil," he added.

Asked if there was a possibility of arresting Putin if he came, Vieira said: "I don't know. I don't think it's possible. I also hope not. I don't know. We won't take any initiative to make that happen".

He also believes that Brazil is not "obliged to comply" with the ICC warrant for the arrest of the Russian president, because "there must be an order" - what exactly, the minister did not specify.

It will be recalled that on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of the Russian Federation Maria Lvova-Belova.

In September, Brazilian President Lula da Silva said that if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin comes to Brazil in 2024 for the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, the decision to arrest him will be made by the Brazilian judiciary, not the government.
