Over January 2, Russian attacks were repelled in four directions, 14 enemy attacks were repelled near Avdiivka - General Staff

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released an operational update on the Russian invasion as of 6 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported on the official Facebook page of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The evening report reads: "The six hundred and seventy-eighth day of the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against our country continues.
On the night of January 2, 2024, the enemy repeated a massive attack with various types of air attack, as it had done a few days earlier - on December 29, 2023. The Russian Federation continues to attack civilian, critical infrastructure and industrial, historical and cultural heritage sites, claiming them as military targets. The main target was the capital of Ukraine. Heavy strikes were also carried out in Kharkiv.
According to the updated information, the enemy used 135 air attack weapons during the day: missiles of various types and attack UAVs. Air defense destroyed 107 air targets: 35 out of 35 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs, 10 out of 10 X-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles, 59 out of 70 X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles, and 3 out of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.
There were 56 combat engagements during the day. The enemy also carried out 66 air strikes, including with Shahed-136/131 drones, and fired 2 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, the Russian terrorist attacks resulted in the deaths and more than 100 injured and wounded civilians, including children. More than 100 private residential and apartment buildings, other civilian and industrial infrastructure in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions were destroyed and damaged.
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.
The situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. There were no signs of offensive groups forming. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. More than 20 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Kliusy in Chernihiv region; Kostiantynivka, Volodymyrivka, Kyianytsia, Stepok, Novodmytrivka in Sumy region; Okhrymivka, Bolohivka, Dvorichanske in Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five attacks near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of our troops. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the occupants did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. The enemy conducted air strikes in the areas of Bilohorivka and Serebryanskyi forestry in the Luhansk region. They shelled more than 10 settlements with artillery and mortars, including Nevske in the Luhansk region and Torske, Serebrianka, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled five attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Kalynivka, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and Stupochky in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled four enemy attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Avdiivka and another 14 attacks in the areas of Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, Nevelske in Donetsk region.
The enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions in the Marinka direction. It carried out air strikes in the areas of Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Kurakhove, Pobieda, Yelizavetivka, and Katerynivka came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Robotyne, in Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to regain the lost position. Novodanylivka and Orikhove in Zaporizhzhia region came under air strikes. Artillery and mortar shelling hit more than 15 settlements, including Zaliznychne, Robotyne, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaki, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa OSG (operational-strategic group) in the Kherson direction, the enemy launched an air strike near Chervonyi Maiak in Kherson region. Beryslav, Tiahynka, Kherson and Bilozerka in the Kherson region came under enemy artillery fire.
The enemy does not abandon its intention to knock our units out of the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, during the day, the occupiers carried out 8 unsuccessful assault operations, but our units continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the enemy.
During the day, the aviation of the defense forces struck 12 areas of concentration of enemy personnel. Missile troops destroyed 2 anti-aircraft missile systems, an artillery system and an enemy fuel and lubricant depot."
