On the night of 12 January, the US and UK armed forces hit more than a dozen Houthi targets in Yemen. The strikes were carried out from fighter jets with Tomahawk missiles

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the BBC, the official statement of the White House.

"Today, at my direction, U.S. military forces, along with the United Kingdom and with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, successfully struck a number of targets in Yemen that the Houthis have used to threaten freedom of navigation," Biden said in a statement.

The US President added that the strikes were a response to "unprecedented Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea". More than 50 countries have been affected by 27 attacks on international commercial shipping.

According to CNN, the strikes last night targeted:

  • Kahlan military base in Saada province;
  • Al-Daylami airbase to the north of the Yemeni capital Sanaa:
  • The airport area of the city of Hudaydah on the Red Sea;
  • Taiz airport and other facilities in Taiz province in the southwestern corner of Yemen
  • The airfield of the city of Abbas.

Radar systems, places for storing and launching drones, places for storing and launching ballistic and cruise missiles were attacked.

"The Royal Air Force has carried out precision strikes against military installations used by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
In recent months, the Houthis have carried out a series of dangerous attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, threatening UK and other vessels.

The United Kingdom will always support freedom of navigation and free trade.

We have therefore taken limited, necessary and proportionate action in self-defence, alongside the United States, with support from the Netherlands, Canada and Bahrain, against targets related to shipboard attacks to weaken the Houthis' military capability and protect global shipping," said British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Russia has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council for 12 January in response to the US and UK strikes on Yemen.

The governments of Denmark, Germany, New Zealand and South Korea have added their names to a statement on the strikes, which involve British and US military forces and are supported by Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands.

It said the strikes were carried out "in accordance with the inherent right of individual and collective self-defence, consistent with the UN Charter". The Coalition to Protect Shipping from Houthis was formed in December. It has already included more than 20 countries.
