Macron calls for issuing joint Eurobonds for defense needs

French President Emmanuel Macron supported the issuance of joint European debt to pay for priorities, including defense and technology.
He said this during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Censor.NET reports with reference to European Pravda.
"We need more public investment in Europe, so we must open a second phase of reinvestment, as we did during the pandemic, and perhaps dare to issue Eurobonds again to finance priorities," Macron said.
As an example of such priorities, he cited Estonia's proposals to issue Eurobonds for its defense industry and for the needs of Ukraine. Macron also mentioned artificial intelligence, chips, and space as areas in which Europe should stimulate investment.
"I think that 2024-2025 will be the years when European countries and the EU as an entity will find themselves in a situation where we will have to decide whether we want to be sovereign or not," he said.
In his opinion, Europe needs to create a single capital market to stimulate more private investment, as well as a more ambitious economic program for industry and innovation.
