Hungarian Prime Minister Balázs Orbán’s political director responded to the Financial Times’ article on possible sanctions against the country.

As Censor.NET informs with reference to Orban's Twitter post.

"Now it has become quite clear: this is blackmail, which has nothing to do with the rule of law. And now they're not even trying to hide it!" the post reads.

He said that on Saturday, 27 January, Budapest sent a proposal to Brussels indicating its readiness to use the EU budget to provide an aid package to Ukraine and to issue general EU debt to finance it, if other "reservations" are added.

According to Orban, "whatever happens, Brussels needs to change".

Earlier, the Financial Times reported that the European Union had developed a plan for economic sanctions against Hungary for blocking aid to Ukraine. The plan includes the threat of denying financial assistance from other EU countries if Hungary does not change its position at the summit on 1 February.
