Ukraine is not expected to be invited to join NATO this year.

This was stated by US State Department spokesman Daniel Sizek, Censor.NET reports citing Suspilne.

The official noted that this year the North Atlantic Alliance celebrates its 75th anniversary and that "the Alliance has been growing stronger in recent years". In particular, this is influenced by enlargement - Finland's accession in April 2023 and the final steps towards Sweden's accession.

"This means that NATO is actually bigger and stronger than it has been in 75 years. This is also an important issue of the connection between NATO and Ukraine," he said.

He added that there are many conflicts and challenges in the world. However, it can be seen that despite the differences among NATO members, in the end, the Alliance's decision to accept Ukraine's accession remains unanimous.

As an example, the official cited last year's NATO summit in Vilnius, where it was stated that "Ukraine's place is in NATO".

"NATO members know and understand that Ukrainians want to become a member of NATO immediately and as soon as possible. To be honest, this is not expected at the NATO summit this year... probably after the war," Sizek explained.

The US State Department spokesman said that cooperation within the Senate is expected to continue in order to implement reforms in Ukraine. The main priority now is to provide assistance to defend against Russian aggression.
