Defense forces shoot down Russian A-50 over Azov Sea - media. VIDEO

The Ukrainian military shot down a Russian A-50 aircraft over the Sea of Azov on the evening of Friday, February 23.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing sources in the Defense Forces.

The sources say that it was a joint operation of the Air Force and the DIU. The level of damage is being clarified.

"The chances of saving the plane are minimal," the sources said.

It is worth recalling that Russia had only 9 such aircraft, but not all of them were combat-ready. The A-50 is a long-range radar detection and control aircraft capable of reconnaissance and targeting.

Later, Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said in a telegram: "Bayan (accordion), where are you?" The A-50 with the call sign "Bayan" was flying! Greetings to the occupiers "Happy Fatherland Defender's Day! You should celebrate at home, and in such a way that you don't tear the Bayan! I thank the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and everyone who ensured the result!"
