Russian army failed to make significant progress in strategic areas - Syrskyi

The situation at the front is quite difficult, but it remains under the control of Ukrainian defenders, who hold back the Russian invaders, despite the lack of ammunition and air defense equipment.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi in an interview with Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.
"The situation at the front is really difficult. But it is no different at the front. Every day requires maximum effort from our soldiers and officers.
But we not only stand on the defensive but also move forward in different directions every day. The number of positions we have returned exceeds the number of positions lost. The enemy did not manage to advance significantly in strategic directions, his territorial gains, if any, are of tactical importance. We control this situation," said Syrskyi.
At the same time, he admitted that the current situation in certain directions remains tense, as the Russian occupiers are increasing their efforts through numerical superiority in personnel and massive assaults on Ukrainian positions, during which they do not count their own losses in people and equipment. In some directions, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repel several dozen such attacks.
According to him, over the past several months and weeks, the enemy has significantly increased the activity of aviation, uses GABs that destroy Ukrainian positions. Before that, Russian troops conducted massive artillery and mortar attacks.
A few days ago, Syrskyi noted, the enemy's advantage in terms of ammunition released was about 6:1, but now, as ammunition from the Western allies arrives, the situation is evening out.
"We learned to fight not with the amount of ammunition, but with skill, using the available weapons.
In some areas of the front, we managed to equalize the artillery situation, and this immediately affected the situation as a whole. In addition, we make maximum use of the advantage in means of unmanned aviation, although the enemy is trying to catch up with us in this type of weapon," the commander-in-chief explained.
He said that the Russian aggressors are continuing their attempts to attack on a wide front and are trying at any cost to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, to push the Ukrainian troops on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Zaporizhzhia region. The armed forces of Ukraine are holding their ground, and help from partners could significantly help in this battle.
"We are all right with the skill of the personnel. We hope to receive from our partners a larger number of air defense equipment and, most importantly, missiles for them, especially taking into account the fact that the enemy has switched to the tactics of massive air strikes against both Ukrainian troops and civilian infrastructure and on the peaceful cities of Ukraine. We are obliged to protect them," added Syrskyi.
