Zelenskyy to Trump: Either we will have nuclear weapons or we will be in NATO

In a conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the need for Ukraine to join NATO.
He said this at a press conference, Censor.NET reports citing the EP.
He called the Budapest Memorandum an ineffective agreement that failed to protect Ukraine when it gave up nuclear weapons.
"Which of these big countries, all the nuclear powers, were affected? All of them? No, only one - Ukraine. Who gave up nuclear weapons? All of them? Only one - Ukraine. Who is at war today? Ukraine. In a conversation with Donald Trump, I told him: "We are in this situation, so what is the way out? Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and then it will be our defense. Or we must have some kind of alliance. Apart from NATO, we don't know any effective alliances today," he said.
The President noted that NATO countries are not at war today, which is why Ukraine chooses NATO over nuclear weapons.
"I believe that Donald Trump heard me. He said: "You have fair arguments," Zelenskyy said.
