Nausėda assured that Lithuania would create the best conditions for the permanent presence of the US military in Lithuania.
According to the president's office, the politicians also discussed cooperation between Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, as well as support for Ukraine.
"I thank the US President-elect for his warm words to Lithuania regarding efforts to strengthen our defense. I am glad that Trump is well acquainted with both the security situation in the region and the energy system problems that Ukraine is experiencing before the winter season," he said.
Nausėda said he appreciated the plans of the incoming US administration to seek peace through a show of force, and emphasized the need to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, thereby limiting the ambitions of other authoritarian regimes.
According to the President, Lithuania and the United States maintain close defense relations and have signed many new contracts for the purchase of weapons and military equipment in recent years.
"In addition, the country is ready to actively develop relations with the United States in the areas of business, innovation, and energy," the press release concluded.
