In UK, both government and opposition have called for continued support for Ukraine: "We will do everything possible"
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that London would support Ukraine with whatever it takes for as long as it is needed. He was echoed by the new leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch.
"We have consistently said that we will do everything we can to support Ukraine and put it in the best possible position for the winter. The UK's support for Ukraine has always been aimed at self-defense. It is proportionate, coordinated and swift, it is a response to Russia's actions and complies with international law under Article 51 of the UN Charter," Starmer said during a speech in parliament, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
He noted that Russia can withdraw its troops and end this war even tomorrow. "But until then, we will stand up for what we think is right, for the sake of Ukraine's security and our own security, and we will support Ukraine with everything we can for as long as it is needed," the British Prime Minister emphasized.
Starmer also said he was proud of the parliament, which has demonstrated cross-party support for Ukraine for more than 1,000 days of the war unleashed by Russia.
For her part, the new leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, also spoke in favor of supporting Ukraine.
"Ukraine is fighting for survival, and we think about the Ukrainian people every day. But these thoughts must be turned into action - by us and by our allies. We will work with the government to ensure that British support for Ukraine is unwavering and continues," she said.
