International partners have no complaints about Ukraine’s efforts to counter arms leakage to Europe - Interior Ministry
International partners want to make sure that Ukraine, as a state at war, is able to control the arms trade and protect European countries from weapons entering their territory.
This was stated by Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.
"First of all, they want the Ministry of Internal Affairs to clearly control the situation, be responsible, and inform about the risks to other countries. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko periodically meets with the heads of the Polish and Romanian Interior Ministries, and this is one of the priority issues discussed alongside the issues of providing assistance to Ukraine," he said.
Also, according to Tymchenko, Ukraine's partners are interested in how the Ministry of Internal Affairs controls the situation in those regions that are close to the borders of European countries.
Tymchenko added that not only the National Police, but also the State Border Guard Service are working on this issue.
"We have to protect our neighbors so that criminal weapons, weapons found on the battlefield and taken out of the war zone do not get to European countries and around the world," said the deputy interior minister.
At the same time, he assured that today there are no complaints from neighboring countries about the work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in this area.
"European Commissioner Ilva Johansson, in particular, emphasizes the effectiveness of the work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in countering the leakage of weapons to neighboring countries. The Ministry of Internal Affairs clearly understands the risks, how to respond to them, and what to do," the Deputy Minister added.
