Russia replaces commander of ’South’ group leading offensive in Kurakhove direction - Russian media

The Russian military has replaced the head of the "South" group, which is involved in the war against Ukraine.
According to Censor.NET, citing Radio Liberty, Russian media reported this.
Lieutenant General Alexander Sanchyk has been appointed as the new commander, who will temporarily act as the commander of the "South" group. Prior to that, he headed the 35th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation, and since May 2024, he has served as the commander of the so-called "SMO" troops.
Last week, it became known that the previous head of the "South" group, Colonel-General Gennady Anashkin, was dismissed from his post. One possible explanation is the systematic deception of the Russian leadership. According to Russian pro-war bloggers, Anashkin submitted false reports, including fictitious victories in the Siversk direction.
As a reminder, the "South" group is conducting an offensive on Kurakhove in the Donetsk region.
