Ukrainians will be able to declare found weapons within day, they will not be seized - Interior Ministry

Citizens of Ukraine will be able to declare the weapons they find to the police during the day. The weapons will not be seized.
This was stated on television by Mykola Hryntsov, Director of the Department for Interaction with the National Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
During the development of departmental orders, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the National Police, worked out a procedure for a person to apply to the police and declare weapons during the day. In this case, the weapons will not be seized. The person will be near the weapon and will see all the activities carried out by police officers during the declaration procedure," - he said.
The procedure for declaring weapons
According to him, in order to declare a weapon, a person needs a passport or identity document, an identification code, a certificate of residence/stay, and a military registration document.
"This document is necessary so that a police officer can make sure that a citizen has the necessary military training experience so that he or she has a basic understanding of the safety of using weapons. Instead of a military registration document, any other document confirming that a citizen has similar training in the use of firearms may be submitted," explained the Interior Ministry representative.
He noted that on Monday, November 25, when this process of declaring weapons began, the Interior Ministry recorded 2 cases of declaring weapons in the frontline region - Kalashnikovs were declared.
Hryntsov said that such weapons as machine guns, flamethrowers, grenade launchers, grenades, and ammunition cannot be declared.
When should the declared weapons be returned?
"As for the month (which is currently ongoing - ed.), it is set for weapons that citizens already have in their hands. In the future, after December 25, citizens can also find and declare these weapons until the end of martial law," said the Interior Ministry representative.
Within a month, a person can go to the police and declare the weapon. In this case, such weapons can be kept during martial law, and after the end of martial law in 90 days, they can be handed over to law enforcement, Hryntsov added.
