Russian army is just three kilometers from Pokrovsk - CNN

Ruscists are already near Pokrovs

Russian troops continue their offensive on the eastern front in Ukraine, approaching Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, which is a strategic city.

According to Censor.NET, CNN reports.

According to the Ukrainian service DeepState, the Russians are now only three kilometers from the outskirts of the city. In addition, as Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic group of troops, said during the telethon, the occupiers destroyed or captured Ukrainian positions near the city.

"The enemy attacked our fortifications in the Pokrovsk direction west of the village of Vidrodzhennia, south of Novotroitske, and as a result of prolonged fighting, two of our positions were destroyed and one was lost," he said.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's gas supply regulator Donetskoblgaz warned that Pokrovsk would be cut off from gas supply starting Thursday, as it is impossible to repair the damage and restore gas supply to consumers due to constant hostile shelling.

The Pokrovsk area has been the scene of the fiercest fighting on the eastern front for several months. Although Pokrovsk is not a large settlement - it had about 60,000 inhabitants before the war - it is located on a key road that connects the city to military centers. It is the backbone of Ukraine's defense in the part of the Donetsk region that is under Ukrainian control.

"The fall of Pokrovsk would be the biggest setback for Ukraine in recent months and comes as the country tries to 'get off the ground while Russian troops put serious pressure on the eastern front line,'" CNN said.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian military, Oleksandr Syrsky, said that battles continue in the Pokrovsk sector with the enemy outnumbered, first of all, in manpower.
