The leader of Germany's Sarah Wagenknecht Union, Sarah Wagenknecht, said that she perceived Russia's actions in early 2022 as a "threatening gesture." At the time, she claimed that Russia was not interested in invading Ukraine. So now she has admitted that she made a mistake in assessing the situation.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by DW.

"I was wrong then, too. I thought it was a threatening gesture," Wagenknecht said on the German ZDF's Heute Journal program, referring to the massive movements of Russian troops in the regions bordering Ukraine shortly before the invasion.

At the same time, Wagenknecht stated that Russia was not interested in invading Ukraine.

"At the time, this was the assessment of the Federal Intelligence Service BND, which we were also informed about in the Bundestag. It was wrong," she said.

At the same time, Wagenknecht again complained about the lack of action to prevent the war.

"Many things were quite foreseeable, and this war could certainly have been avoided if more measures had been taken to avoid crossing the Russians' red lines," she added.

She also continues to criticize Western arms supplies to Ukraine and regularly advocates for negotiations with Russia.

"I think that we, Germany, must once again become a voice of mediation, a voice of diplomacy in this world that actually does everything possible to end military conflicts through negotiations," she said.

Earlier, Wagenknecht demanded that the coalition agreements include clauses on a diplomatic settlement of the war in Ukraine and non-support for the deployment of US missiles.
