Air defense systems, artillery and ammunition: Scholz and Michal discussed strengthening military support for Ukraine

Scholz and Michal discuss aid to Ukraine

During a meeting in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal discussed, among other things, strengthening military support for Ukraine, in particular, air defense systems, artillery and ammunition.

According to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform, Scholz said this at a joint press conference with Michal.

Thus, according to Scholz, one of the topics of the talks was strengthening military support for Ukraine, in particular, air defense, artillery and ammunition. He noted that the German budget for 2025 allocates 4 billion euros for military assistance to Ukraine, while the military assistance provided and promised reaches 28 billion euros.

"Putin would like to have a proxy regime in Ukraine that he would control... Russia should not win this war. For Ukraine, there should be a fair and sustainable peace, which... it should be able to negotiate on its own, on what is important to it," Scholz said.

At the same time, he said he was ready to call Putin again to urge him to stop the aggression and withdraw his troops.

Scholz also emphasized the need for close cooperation between the United States and Europe to support Ukraine.

"Russia's horrific war against Ukraine affects the entire European security architecture. We are responding decisively and ... together we are defending European security and every inch of NATO," Scholz said, adding that the security situation in the Baltic region, on the eastern flank of the Alliance, is currently tense.

In addition, the Chancellor emphasized the need to invest more in the security of "sovereign Europe" and stressed that Germany has reached the level of 2% of GDP spending on defense, and from 2028 the Bundeswehr budget will reach 80 billion euros.
