Slovak President Pellegrini to "reconsider" visit to Ukraine after gas transit talks

President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini is considering a visit to Ukraine. However, he will wait for the completion of negotiations on gas transit for Slovakia and an assessment of the situation in the war.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Správy RTVS.

Pellegrini stressed that the issue of energy security plays a key role in interstate relations between Ukraine and Slovakia.

He added that he would wait for the completion of negotiations on gas transit for Slovakia and other important issues.

According to him, he will also monitor the course of Russia's war against Ukraine in the coming weeks and months.

"Then, next year, we will reconsider my possible visit to Ukraine," the Slovak president said.

Pellegrini has already met twice with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, although neither meeting took place on the territory of Ukraine.

Since Slovakia depends on Russian gas transit through Ukraine, the Slovak president stressed that stability in this area is the basis for further development of relations between the two countries.

As a reminder, on 22 December 2024, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico arrived in Moscow to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

He said that he visited Putin in response to Zelenskyy's reluctance to continue the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
