The death of the former US president was confirmed by his son James Carter. However, he did not say what exactly caused his father's death.

The 39th President of the United States passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia.

It is known that in recent years, Carter has been treated for an aggressive form of skin cancer, melanoma, with tumours that have spread to his liver and brain.

In February 2023, the Carter Center reported that the former president, after a series of hospitalisations, would stop further treatment and spend the remaining time at home under hospice care.

His wife, former US First Lady Rosalyn Carter, died a year earlier, on 19 November, at the age of 96.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States from the Democratic Party. Carter held the presidency from 1977 to 1981. Prior to that, the politician was the governor of Georgia and a senator.

Carter is also a 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner.

On 1 October 2024, Carter became the first former American president to live to the age of 100.

In July of this year, it was reported that Jimmy Carter had voted early in the presidential election for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
