Kyiv police recorded 851 war crimes last year

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the police of the Kyiv region have registered more than 28.6 thousand criminal offenses related to war crimes.

This was reported by the head of the Kyiv regional police, Anatolii Shchadylo, in an interview with Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.

"Investigative units of the Kyiv Regional Police have so far registered 28,608 criminal offenses related to war crimes. Since the beginning of 2024, 851 of them have been registered," Shchadylo said.

Most of the proceedings were opened under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of the laws and customs of war. In particular, these crimes include intentional killings, torture, abuse of civilians, destruction of infrastructure and other actions contrary to international law.

Crimes against children are recorded separately. Since the beginning of the war, 114 such cases have been identified: 41 children were killed, 68 received injuries of varying severity, and 5 are missing.

The police of Kyiv region are actively cooperating with international organizations, law enforcement agencies of other countries and the prosecutor's office to collect evidence and ensure punishment for those responsible for war crimes.
