Strong Ukraine must be prerequisite for peace, it cannot be dictated from Moscow, - German government spokesperson Hebestreit

Steffen Hebestreit on the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

German government spokesman Steffen Gebestreit believes that a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine cannot be dictated from the Kremlin.

He said this at a briefing, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

If asked whether peace will be achieved this year, my answer would be: we should hope so. But it has to be a peace that is based on a strong Ukraine. We are not talking about a peace that is dictated," said Hebestreit.

According to him, Olaf Scholz has repeatedly emphasized his support for Ukraine and is discussing with the future US president the coordination of support for Kyiv.

"It is very important for Ukraine to be in a position of strength," Hebestreit emphasized.

The German government spokesperson reminded that in recent days there have been reports of shelling of Ukrainian civilians and continued destruction of energy infrastructure.

"The war continues, as it has for almost three years, ruthless, and everyone demands that Russia immediately stop this war," he added.
