Ukraine denies Slovakia’s claims of disruption of gas transit talks - Chentsov

Ukraine has denied Slovakia's statements about its refusal to participate in trilateral talks with the EU and the Slovak side on the transit of Russian gas.
Ukraine's Ambassador to the European Union Vsevolod Chentsov said this in a commentary to Politico, Censor.NET reports.
According to him, the statements of the Slovak government about the disruption of the meeting are false. The meeting, scheduled for January 7 in Brussels, was to discuss the consequences of the expiration of the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
"Ukraine has launched an early warning mechanism for electricity supplies because of Fico' s threats to cut off supplies, not because of negotiations on gas transit," Chentsov said.
According to him, Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko planned to attend the meeting, but due to the difficult situation in the energy sector, he was forced to stay in Ukraine. The Ukrainian side proposed to hold the talks online, but the European Commission suggested rescheduling them for another date.
Stopping Russian gas transit
As a reminder, at 07:00 on January 1, 2025, the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukraine was stopped in the interests of national security.
The Cabinet of Ministers said that Ukraine had duly informed the European Commission about the termination of gas transit. European countries are prepared.
