Counterattack of Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kursk region: Russia suffered heavy losses but managed to achieve only minor success, - British intelligence

On 5 January 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a limited armoured counterattack in the Kursk region of Russia.
This is stated in a statement by the UK Ministry of Defence published on X (Twitter), Censor.NET reports.
It is noted that although Russia suffered heavy losses, it was able to achieve only minor success in the territory captured by Ukraine. British intelligence reports that Russia's main efforts are aimed at the Donetsk region, in particular at capturing the city of Kurakhove, which was attacked by Russian troops in November 2024.
"Central Donetsk oblast continues to be the most volatile area of the frontline in eastern Ukraine," the statement said.
According to the General Staff, in the 5 months since the start of the Kursk operation, total enemy losses have amounted to more than 38,000, including about 15,000 killed.
