It is important that Ukraine can act from position of strength, not weakness in negotiations with Russia - Dutch Defense Minister Brekelmans
Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans said that the most important thing is that in the event of negotiations with Russia to end the war, Ukraine should be able to act from a position of strength, not weakness.
He said this in a comment to Ukrinform in The Hague, Censor.NET reports.
The minister was answering a question about trump cards that could be important in the event of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
The most important thing is for Ukraine to be able to act from a position of strength, not weakness. Strength on the battlefield, strength in air defense, strength in economic terms. We have to continue to do everything possible to strengthen Ukraine, and we will do it," Brekelmans emphasized.
He also reminded that the Netherlands has already provided military assistance to Ukraine for about 6 billion euros and has allocated the rest of the available budget.
"In total, we have provided more than 1 billion for artillery ammunition. In the last quarter of 2024, we allocated 2 billion in military aid, financing and co-financing, including F16s and drones," the Dutch Defense Minister said.
According to him, the Netherlands, together with Ukraine and its international partners, are constantly looking for ways to increase the number of exercises.
"Within the framework of EUMAM (the EU military training mission established to help train Ukrainian servicemen - ed.), we have actively contributed to the training of more than 60 thousand Ukrainian servicemen. This includes training in the Netherlands. For reasons of operational security, I cannot specify what kind of training is currently taking place, but earlier, for example, we conducted training for the Marines," Brekelmans added.
Earlier it was reported that Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans wants to start peace talks before Donald Trump does.
