Erdogan and Fico discussed war in Ukraine: "We need to establish just and lasting peace"

Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Robert Fico

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called for a "just and lasting peace" in the Russian-Ukrainian war during their talks.

Erdogan said this at a press conference following the meeting, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Of course, we discussed the war in Ukraine, which is now affecting the whole of Europe... Before the conflict intensifies, it is necessary to establish a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," Erdogan emphasized.

In addition, the Turkish leader announced his intention to maintain contacts with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to discuss the war in Ukraine and its end.

"Trump has previously said that he will end the Russian-Ukrainian war. We in Turkey are ready to do our part to end the war. I plan to raise this issue in my discussions with Trump," Erdogan added.
