Ukraine must win war and restore its territorial integrity - Merz
German CDU leader Friedrich Merz stressed that Ukraine must win by restoring its territorial integrity and reserve the right to choose its own international path.
He said this at an event in Berlin on Thursday, January 23, Censor.NET reports with reference to Der Spiegel.
"Victory means the restoration of territorial integrity with a democratically legitimate government exercising its own state sovereignty," Merz said.
He also emphasized that Ukraine has the right to choose its own political and military alliances. Merz assured that support for Ukraine will remain an important area of Germany's work.
The chancellor candidate did not comment on the controversy over a potential €3 billion aid package to Ukraine to finance arms supplies but noted that Germany should not become a party to the war.
Earlier it was reported that Friedrich Merz plans to replace the assistance to Ukrainians in Germany with a more modest one and at the same time speed up their employment if he wins the election.
