2025 should bring just peace with strong security guarantees for Ukraine - Sandu

President of Moldova Maya Sandu

Moldova and Ukraine share a common vision of a just peace, which involves not only ending Russia's war against Ukraine but also preventing aggression in the future.

This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu at a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Censor.NET reports.

"I hope that 2025 will bring the peace we all want - not only peace for Ukrainians, but also for the entire region and continent, a just and lasting peace supported by strong security guarantees for Ukraine," Sandu said.

According to her, this means not only ending the war, but also building a future where aggression has no place.

"Moldova and Ukraine share the same vision - a future where democracy flourishes, borders are respected, and no family will face the horrors of war anymore," the Moldovan leader emphasized.

She noted that Russia is escalating its hybrid attacks and is trying to destabilize the situation in Moldova, in particular by trying to create an energy crisis, social and economic chaos.

"Russia is trying to create tension on both banks of the Dniester and install a pro-Kremlin government in Chisinau. Its ultimate goal is to consolidate its military presence, illegally stationed troops in Transnistria, and use Moldova against Ukraine," she said.

Sandu added that her country is "fighting back" and defending democracy.

She also strongly condemned Russian attacks on Ukrainian social infrastructure.

"These actions have taken many innocent lives and violated international law. They also threaten Moldova as the drones cross our airspace. We strongly condemn these attacks. They show why Ukraine needs to strengthen its defense and our region needs more security," the Moldovan president summarized.
