War will not end with "maximalist goals" for either Ukraine or Russia - Rubio

Rubio comments on the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that neither Ukraine nor Russia is likely to achieve their "maximalist goals" at the end of the war. It will take a lot of effort to achieve peace.

He said this in an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly, Censor.NET reports.

Rubio emphasized that both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin have their own domestic interests.

"If you imagine you're a Ukrainian, the Russians made you suffer so much, and now you're going to let them keep the land (under their control - ed.)? I mean, people in Ukraine would be upset about that, you would understand that," he said.

However, he noted, there are also realities of life that show that both sides are paying a high price for the war, and both sides have an interest in seeing this conflict end.

"It (the war - ed.) will not end with the maximalist goals of one side, and there is a lot of hard work to be done. And I think only the United States under President Trump's leadership can make that possible, but it's not going to be easy and it's going to take some time. But I know he is determined to make it happen," Rubio added.

Earlier, Marco Rubio said that the United States wants to end the war in Ukraine so that it does not start again in a few years.
