On Thursday, 30 January, six workers were injured in an explosion at the Rheinmetall Expal Munitions plant in Javali-Viejo, southeastern Spain.

This is reported by El Pais, Censor.NET informs.

According to the emergency coordination centre, the explosion occurred on the territory of the company, which specialises in the production of artillery ammunition, mortar shells and medium-calibre shells, as well as rocket propulsion systems.

Six employees of the company were injured in the explosion: five men were taken to hospital, one of them is in serious condition due to burns. Another victim was treated on the spot.

The possible causes of the explosion are currently unknown. The company did not comment on the incident.

According to preliminary information, the detonation occurred in one of the powder warehouses.

After the explosion, which occurred at around 16:20 (17:20 Kyiv time), two fires broke out on an area of approximately 1000 sq m and about 2000 sq m. The fire could have spread to the forest, but rescuers managed to contain both fires.

Spanish authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
