Media: SSU investigates leak of Budanov’s ’words’ at closed meeting of Verkhovna Rada about ’threat to Ukraine’s existence’

SSU opens criminal proceedings over alleged leak of Budanov’s words

The Security Service of Ukraine has opened criminal proceedings under the article on disclosure of information constituting a state secret. This happened after some media outlets spread a "quote" by the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov about the alleged threat to the existence of Ukraine without negotiations to end the war.

According to Censor.NET, citing the UP, a source in the SSU reported this.

It is noted that the relevant proceedings, opened on January 28, concern persons to whom this information was directly entrusted during a closed, classified meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

"The pre-trial investigation is ongoing and is being carried out under Part 2 of Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the special service said.

At the same time, Sevgil Musayeva, Editor-in-Chief of Ukrainska Pravda, said that the editorial board "acts within the law and strictly adheres to professional standards of journalism."

"UP, as always, stands by its sources of information, which is guaranteed by the current legislation of Ukraine and international law. Freedom of speech and public access to information are key values of a democratic society. "Ukrainska Pravda remains true to its principles and will continue to do its job with integrity and responsibility," she emphasized.

On January 27, the media reported, citing sources, that Budanov had allegedly warned of a threat to Ukraine's existence if there were no negotiations.

The DIU later reported that the alleged quote by Kyrylo Budanov from a closed, classified meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which was circulated in the media, was not true.
