1333 cultural heritage sites damaged in Ukraine due to Russian aggression, 78 in January - Ministry of Culture

As of the end of January 2025, 1,333 cultural heritage sites and 2,185 cultural infrastructure facilities in Ukraine were damaged by Russian aggression. In particular, 78 monuments were damaged in January.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, Censor.NET reports.
As noted, according to information provided by the regional and Kyiv city military administrations, 78 cultural heritage sites in Kherson, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia regions were damaged in January.
The total number of damaged cultural heritage sites in Ukraine as of the end of January 2025 is 1333. Of these, 131 are of national importance, 1126 are of local importance, and 76 are newly discovered.
It is reported that cultural monuments in 18 regions and the city of Kyiv were damaged, in particular: in Kharkiv region - 324, Kherson - 255, Donetsk - 164, Odesa - 137, Chernihiv - 65, Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv - 83, Lviv - 60, Zaporizhzhia - 58, Dnipro - 49, Mykolaiv - 46, Sumy - 33, Luhansk - 32, Khmelnytskyi - 10, Poltava - 6, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr - 4, Kirovohrad - 2, Cherkasy - 1.
At the same time, 2,185 cultural infrastructure facilities were damaged. Of these, 409 were destroyed (18.7%).
Overall, cultural infrastructure suffered the greatest losses and damage in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy regions.
The ministry notes that the largest group of cultural infrastructure facilities that have been damaged or destroyed are clubs (48.3% of the total number of cultural institutions that have been damaged).
In total, the following were affected:
- club establishments - 1056;
- libraries - 784;
- art education institutions - 166;
- museums and galleries - 120;
- theaters, cinemas and philharmonic societies - 39;
- nature reserves - 7;
- parks, zoos - 9;
- circuses - 4.
Clubs, libraries, museums, and theaters were destroyed in 302 territorial communities (20.6% of all TCs in Ukraine) in Vinnytsia (3.2% of TCs), Dnipropetrovsk (21%), Donetsk (87%), Zhytomyr (17%), Zakarpatska (2%), Zaporizhzhia (40,3%), Kirovohrad (4%), Kyiv (28.6%), Luhansk (46.2%), Lviv (5.5%), Mykolaiv (44.2%), Odesa (10%), Poltava (4%), Sumy (64.7%), Kharkiv (59%), Kherson (43%), Khmelnytskyi (17%), Cherkasy (6.1%), Chernihiv (51%) regions and the city of Kyiv.
It is also noted that almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kherson regions are still under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to calculate the exact number of damaged cultural heritage monuments that suffered during the hostilities and occupation.
