If Europe cannot defend itself, no one will defend it - Mecola

President of the European Parliament Roberta Mecola called for increased investment in defense.
She said this before the start of an informal meeting of EU heads of state and government, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"Our citizens made it clear in the European elections that we need to invest more in defense because they want to feel more secure. That is why we in the European Parliament will be pushing for more investment and more production, for closer cooperation. We have already done a lot in this regard, but we have to do much more," Mecola said.
"If Europe cannot protect itself, no one will protect Europe. So the worst thing we can do is to do nothing. If we do not act, we may lose sovereignty, security and lives. This will be my main message today," the President of the European Parliament added.
